It's so exciting thinking about building a new house. I thought it might be a fun and smart thing to do to start going thru my old magazines to do an inspiration board for what I want in the house. Lucky me...Dear One has said he wants input on the style of the house, orientation on the block and location of rooms etc (quite right too!) but he has said as far as the inside goes with fittings and decor he is happy to leave it to me. He must trust my judgment which is nice, but woo hoo, how much fun is it going to be to put it all together.
I was thinking it would be fun for everyone who loves decorating and their home to do an inspiration board for each room, not so much for what you can have, but what you would love to have. I figure that if something changes and we don't build our new house, then it is still a pleasurable pass time going thru my magazines and putting together the rooms I want! I am lucky tho that Dear One and I seem to agree fairly well on most things, so we won't be arguing over anything at all.
So I thought it might be fun from time to time to put on my blog the pictures that inspire me as far as different rooms in the dream house go! We probably won't start building for a year, so I have plenty of time to plot and plan. I figure that once we get going, a lot of decisions will need to be made quickly so knowing what we want would be a good idea.
Anyway, as far as bathrooms go, it's funny that for years and years my dream bathroom came with our current home we bought a year ago. You'd think a girl would be happy, but no, as soon as I got one exactly as I dreamt for so long, I actually changed my style a little bit, mostly with regard to colours.
About a year or so ago I was watching one of my favourite shows, Design Inc, and Sarah Richardson did a bathroom that absolutely curled my toes. I love her style so much, if I were to ever hire a designer, it would be her. Of course she is from Canada so it would never happen, but also I would never use a designer as a house should reflect your own taste, I think, not someone else's! But Sarah Richardson seems to come up with rooms which are so comfy, but so stylish, and she loves using vintage and antique pieces in her rooms. Design Inc is one of my most favourite shows.
The particular show I was inspired by was "Caroline's Bathroom." I was lucky as that particular episode was repeated a few weeks ago and I got my sister to tape it and put it onto a disc for me, so I can have a record of how they put the room together and I will be able to use some of the elements as inspirational for the look I want. Here are some of the pictures of that bathroom from her site at Design Inc.
I also recently bought a copy of the current Country Style magazine which is one of my newest favourite magazines. In it this month is a couple of absolutely gorgeous photos for bathrooms just in the style I like. I thought I might show you those as well. For Aussie readers, you should run out and buy this magazine as it really has some gorgeous photos. The new one is out this week on Wednesday I think, so I'm looking forward to getting that.
I'm on holidays from work at the moment, so happy, and I'm just going to kick around at home! My idea of a great holiday is to just be at home! I suppose I don't mind my job, but I get so tired having to get up so early every day since I moved to the country, I'm usually absolutely knackered by Wednesday, and I still have two more days to go! I've been feeling so tired I've not been feeling like I'm coping with my job very well, which I think is in part because I'm so tired (I turn into a cry baby unfortunately when things go wrong) and also because since I just moved to the Brisbane office things are so different there, so much faster, so many more jurisdictions, and soooo many courts. I always try so hard to do everything perfectly and it's just not possible doing multiple courts, but you feel compelled to try and I get so stressed when it doesn't go perfectly. I've sort of settled in a bit the last week or so, I think because I've decided since I can't do it perfectly, I just have to let it go, in that you just have to give up and accept you just do your best and it's never going to be as good as you want it to be! So hard when you're a perfectionist!!
My job is to record District, Supreme and Court of Appeal proceedings in the Brisbane higher courts and we do multiple courts at the same time. As we don't type all the proceedings, we have to give directions to the typists as to what to type and not, as well as which barristers etc are appearing in the proceedings and speaking. We don't sit in court any more, which I miss, we do it remotely, digitally using computer screens. It is difficult at any time to keep up with all the courts and what is happening as things never go to plan, but to make things worse we have a new system that isn't working well and breaks down all the time. Sometimes by about 10:30 a.m. I feel like I've already done a full day's work. I was considering dropping down to my old job before I got the promotion at a centre closer to home to cut all the travel, but this week I was thinking instead of doing that, maybe I can keep my promotion and drop down to four days a week...and guess what, if I do that they want me to take Mondays off! Another big woo hoo. At the moment I hate Mondays, but if I have it off work, it will become my new favourite day of the week!
Because of my move to working in the city a few weeks ago, sometimes find it a little hard keeping up with my blog and answering everyone's comments which I like to do, but lately since I leave at 6:15 in the morning and don't get home till 7:30 at night I've been finding it really difficult. I hope everyone understands sometimes I just don't seem to get time to reply, but I do really appreciate your comments. I know from my stats I get about 120 visits a day, but when people comment at least I know that some people like my blog and it inspires me to keep going! I love looking at other blogs, but don't leave comments very often, so I suppose I can't complain if people don't leave comments on mine!
This week again, one of my new roses has bloomed, so I thought I might end with some pictures of this gorgeous new creamy rose! I still can't quite bring myself to pick them, but I'm sure in the future that will change. I think it's because the bushes are so small at the moment. It will be great when they've grown up a bit, I won't feel like I'm cutting down half the bush when I take one flower!
And this is my Pierre De Ronsard about to bloom. I got so excited I counted all the buds on this climber and it has about 15! Sorry about this, folks, but I've never grown anything before so it's quite exciting all these flowers!
My hydrangeas have changed from white to the most beautiful shade of pale pink. They must have known I'm a pink girl! Love them! Dear One hates hydrangeas as he says they are granny plants and remind him of when he was young having to weed the garden. These are so gorgeous he'll just have to get over it! I'd love a whole garden of them.
My jasmines are really growing now and I've realised I might have to tone down my fragranced plants otherwise I'm going to have a complete rose/jasmine/gardenia stink bomb on my hands! It could be worse huh!?! I was planning at some stage to get some Childrens Roses, which apparently have one of the strongest fragrances of all the roses, so, yes, the more the merrier!
Always inspiring to visit your blog and enjoy your positive attitude to creating a beautiful space. The photos you post of different rooms are simply beautiful and best of all, it is easy to see how we could recreate something similar our selves. Off to put another coat of paint on a sad brown table that wants to shine in a new shabby chic kind of way.

Hi Vicki!!!
I love your weblog. It is very beautiful and inspiring. I'm just getting started on this blogging thing and am still in the learning process on how to design everything to get it how I want it to be. I would love any tips you could give me. Anything would be helpful. I have allot of the same interests that you do. Keep up the good work.
Thanks,
